Claiming an Education by Adrienne Rich is all about women's rights, and really taking a stand to take what is rightfully yours, and embrace it. Within the first two paragraphs Rich writes that we, as women, and even students for that matter, should claim our education, not just receive one. I believe this is true. We chose to go to college, so it's up to us to put fourth our own effort and use every resource we can to claim our rightful education. I thought it was a very interesting point how Rich pointed out that even though there is an increasing number of females in different fields, there is still an underrepresented number of women in higher positions. How is it, I wondered, that at an all female college, such as Douglass College, that men are the ones in charge and making the decisions? It sounds like an all girls school, for an all male thinking education. I really liked how empowering Rich was throughout this article by saying to not let someone else run your life and make your decisions. Everyone, not even just women, need to take their life and do with it as they see fit, not as others do. Rich referred to this as "responsibility to yourself".
